East Khasi Hills DC asks people to comply with SC order on bursting of crackers

SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has directed all the citizens in the district   to strictly, comply with the directions of the Supreme Court  where it has prohibited the bursting of crackers beyond the two hours stipulated time during all the major festivals including the ensuing Deepawali Festival.

The DC said that any, deviance from the urder would invite strict action as per law.

The timings for the said crackers from all wholesale and retail outlets has been fixed from 10:00 A,M. on November 6 and 7 and the time for bursting of low decibel and low emission crackers has been fixed from 8:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. only, in the entire district.

The order further, said that any bursting of crackers for religious, social or cultural purposes would necessitate the groups concerned to obtain necessary permission in writing from the office of the Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District, failing which, the group concerned will be held personally responsible for their acts which are in contravention of the Supreme Court’s Order.
