SHILLONG: Bright colours, cartoon drawings adorned its walls and together with dolls and toys to attract children, the child friendly corner was inaugurated at Sadar Police Station on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, SP East Khasi Hills, Davis Marak said the child friendly corner will not only be for children who are in conflict with the law but also for those who will be requiring care and protection.
“It is with this endeavour that we started the Child Friendly corner. Many a time, we come across children in conflict with the law, abandoned children at night, we have problems keeping them in the police station,” he said.
According to him, the child friendly corner would be of help to the children while also stressing on the sensitive attitude of police personnel towards the needs and rights of children.
Marak hoped that such kind of projects will be attempted to replicate in other police stations very soon.
Speaking as the chief guest, chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Meena Kharkongor said the child friendly corner is the first of its kind in East Khasi Hills.
“We have to give the children voice, most of the time, we forget that children have voices,” she said.
