Stun grenade explodes in ‘freak mishap’

GUWAHATI: In what appears to be a freak mishap, two persons sustained minor injuries following an “explosion” after one of them removed the safety pin of a stun grenade that was found lying “abandoned” in the Jhargaon area under Jagiroad police station around 4pm on Saturday, police sources said.
“The F/98 Battalion of BSF, which was engaged in the adjacent area in connection with NRC duty had lost one stun grenade yesterday. The grenade which was lying in an abandoned condition was picked up by one of the victims,” a press statement issued by the chief public relations officer, Assam Police, said on Saturday evening.
The injured persons were taken to hospital for first aid and subsequently discharged.
