SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) said the MDA allies would be generous enough to support the candidate proposed by the party as a Golden Jubilee gift to the party.

Marking its 50 years milestone, HSPDP MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said the MDA has not decided on who is the common candidate yet.

“The party HSPDP will field its candidate and propose the candidate’s name. Who knows the allies will give the Golden Jubilee gift to the HSPDP by giving their support to the HSPDP candidate as a common candidate. It will be joyous moment if all the party gives a Golden Jubilee gift to the HSPDP,” he said at the Golden Jubilee celebration.

As for the 2019 Council election, there should be an understanding at the constituency level about the candidates and there will no direction from the party high-ups.

Speaking about the alliance with UDP, Renikton said, “We should not be the reason for disunity hence formed the RDA and the alliance is still strong.”

Later, speaking to reporters, president of the party, K.P. Pangniang said the name of the candidate cannot be divulged officially.

Asked, if he will contest the MP election, he replied in the negative and the candidate would be proposed from within the party.
