St Lucia: Not too much of a setback, says England captain Heather Knight after her team are forced to split points with Sri Lanka.
Not a single ball was bowled at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet and that forced England and Sri Lanka to split points in what was their opening fixture at the ICC Women’s World T20 2018.
“I think it’s frustrating, but I don’t think it’s too much of a setback. It is what it is,” said Knight.
“We’re obviously desperate to get our tournament going, but today it’s obviously not to be. We’ve just got to be ready when it comes.”
With more rain forecast for the next few days in St Lucia, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu was left wondering when the Sri Lankans will get some game time, an ICC report on Sunday said.
“I saw the Guyana condition is really good, but in here it’s not good, the weather. Hopefully we have a match next Monday. Let’s see, I hope we can play next Monday’s match,” she said.
Both teams understand that the weather is not in their control, unfortunate as that might be. (UNI)
