SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) said the MDA allies should be generous enough to support the candidate proposed by the party as a Golden Jubilee gift to the party.
Marking its 50 year jubilee, HSPDP MLA Renikton L Tongkhar said the MDA has not decided as to who will be the common candidate. “The HSPDP will field its candidate and we will propose the candidate’s name in the MDA. Who knows the allies will give the Golden Jubilee gift to the HSPDP by giving their support to the HSPDP nominee as a common candidate. It will be joyous moment if all the parties give a Golden Jubilee gift to the HSPDP,” he said at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the party on Saturday.
As for the 2019 council elections, there should be an understanding at the constituency level about the candidates and there should not be any direction from the party high-ups.
Speaking about the alliance with UDP, Renikton said, “We should not be the reason for disunity and hence we formed the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) and the alliance is still strong.”
Later, speaking to reporters, president of the party, K.P. Pangniang said the name of the candidate cannot be divulged.
Asked if he will contest the Lok Sabha polls, he replied in the negative and added that the candidate will be proposed from the party.
