Kokrajhar: Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) leader Hagrama Mohilary, an ally of the Congress today threatened to file a case against the Assam government for its alleged failure to release fund for central development projects in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area.

Mohilary, who is also the BTC chief told reporters here that he would take recourse to legal action as nearly Rs 13 crore was due for release towards development work in the BTC area for certain central projects as per Article 275 (1) of the Constitution.

As per legal provision and guidelines, he said, the BTC administration had sent proposals to the Welfare of Plains Tribe and Backward Classes department of Assam for the sanction of Rs 8.13 crore of the Central fund this financial year but the amount was yet to be received, Mohilary claimed.

Though he had made the proposal for nearly Rs 13 crore, the BTC chief claimed that the state government reduced it to about Rs 8.13 crore. Mohilary also alleged that state government departments had instead sent proposals of an NGO (name undisclosed) of Baska district of BTC to the Central government flouting the legitimate proposal of BTC and going against the Constitution.

Demanding that the state government immediately release the amount to the BTC for utilisation this financial year, he threatened that otherwise the BTC will be compelled to file a law suit in the High court or in the Supreme Court against Assam government for violation of a constitutional mandate.
