SHILLONG: The CBI has submitted its report on the education scam, particularly regarding the remaining 10 centres where teachers’ recruitment was carried out, to the Chief Secretary and the High Court on Wednesday.
Source said another report was submitted to the High Court regarding the status of 99 teachers who had filed a petition stating that they were not tainted.
According to sources, half of the 99 teachers were found to be tainted.
As far as the report on the 10 centres is concerned, the probe had revealed that the original score sheets of the candidates were missing from these centres. However, the CBI completed the probe despite this problem, sources added.
Out of the 10 centres, only the photocopies of mark sheets of eight were available.
Earlier, following the findings of the first CBI inquiry report, the court had scrapped the LP school teachers’ recruitment carried out in the five centres.
Though another CBI inquiry into the criminal aspect of the education scam was completed, the probe agency head office is yet to give nod to file charge sheet against the accused in the case in the Sessions Court.
Though the report is ready, once approval comes from Delhi office, the CBI will seek prosecution sanction from the state government before filing charge sheet as per the Prevention of Corruption Act.
More than 400 persons, including the former Education Minister and Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh, former education official JD Sangma and politicians, who had recommended names for appointment, were quizzed by the CBI.
The Division Bench of the High Court had on November 2 last year ordered the CBI probes giving time frame of six months for completion.
Later, the court extended six more months since May this year to complete the reports.
