5 held in Jaintia Hills violence case

 JOWAI: Jaintia Hills Police have arrested five persons in connection with a mob clash between groups of villagers from two different villages at Shkenpyrsit that left one civilian dead and six police personnel injured.

According Amlarem Police, the five youths picked up from Mupyut village were identified as Thom Lyngdoh, Yooli Dkhar, Tei Pohsiej (Dkhar), Eniwan Khynriam and Jenavos Khynriam. Police sources informed that more arrests was likely in the case.

“Police are interrogating all the arrested persons and a case was also registered against them,” a senior police officer said on Sunday.

It may be mentioned that on Friday night a mob clash between villagers of Shkenpyrsit and Mupyut villages under Amlarem Sub-Division led to the death of one Justline Kyndiap (Dkhar) and injury to six police personnel.

School teacher held for drug possession

AJYWO activists apprehended one LP School teacher, Fiftly Tang, of Muthlong B from Lad-Jalyiah for allegedly trafficking drugs in Ladrymbai, Jaintia Hills, on Saturday.

Members of the AJYWO, East Jaintia Zone also apprehended one of Tang’s accomplices, Welcome Rymbai, who is also an alleged drugs trafficker.

AJYWO also detained two vehicles, one Maruti A-star (ML04-8993), driven by Fiftly Tang and one Mahindra Jeep (ML05- 3651) driven by Welcome Rymbai.

“We seized a 100 ml bottle containing powder suspected to be heroin from Tang but while he was being caught, he threw the powder on the faces of our members,” AJYWO working president Marshall Biam said.

Meanwhile, the AJYWO also apprehended another drugs user, Dame Bareh of Rymbai village on Saturday.

The AJYWO later, handed over all the three to Ladrymbai Police and a complaint was also lodged against them.
