TURA: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) from Mangsang in East Garo Hills has urged concerned authorities to resume construction work on the intermediate lane on Rongjeng-Mangsang-Adokgre Road which was halted after certain local residents demanded compensation.
According to the JAC, the road project which covers a total length of 44 kilometres was being undertaken under the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) Scheme. While work was put to a complete stop on some affected portions of the road after the opposition, the majority of the villagers from many villages along the road are demanding that work should continue and be completed as early as possible.
In this regard, the JAC along with the general public also held a public rally from Mangsang Bamil Playground to Mangsang Mini Stadium on Thursday in which, thousands of villagers from the area participated.
President of the JAC, Sebiush Marak has strongly criticized the irrational move by a handful of residents to oppose such a huge project which could benefit the people of the region in future.
“How can a handful of people oppose such a major project that has the potential to uplift the lives of the people from the area? If they want compensation, let them demand compensation, but the ongoing work on the project cannot be obstructed,” Marak warned.
