SHILLONG: Nagaland secured a 57-run victory over Meghalaya on the third day of the U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy plate group match at the Meghalaya Cricket Association Ground in the city on Friday.
Requiring 160 more runs to win out of a target of 212, Meghalaya started the day on 52/4, but though several batsmen got starts, none were able to stick it out and the remaining six wickets were bagged by the visitors by the end of the morning session, with the team all out for 154.
P Rohit, who resumed his innings on 2, top-scored for the hosts with 31. He and Tiwari had given Meghalaya some hope early on, putting on 37 runs for the sixth wicket, but the latter was eventually dismissed for 14.
Captain Akash Kumar contributed an unbeaten 30 lower down the order, but he ran out of partners as Nagaland took wickets at regular intervals. Nagaland’s Shubham was the bowler who really caused trouble for the hosts – he claimed figures of 5/43.
The Meghalaya U-23s will now travel to Dehradun to take on Uttarakhand from November 22.
