SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling said on Friday the government is all set to de-notify the applicability of MUDA building bylaws in scheduled areas but the final decision “will be taken after the autonomous district councils submit their set of rules”.
Dohling told reporters here that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council has submitted their bylaws and the other two councils have been asked to do the same at the earliest.
Earlier, the three district councils were given a month’s time to submit their bylaws but now more than a month has passed but GHADC and JHADC have not submitted their bylaws.
“After getting their bylaws, we will cross examine and if we find everything is fine, we will be ready to revoke the notification of January 13, 1989,” Dohling said.
The notification will not be withdrawn until another regulatory body fills in the void.
Earlier in a meeting between the department and the chiefs of the three councils and leaders of the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep, the department had decided that it would withdraw the notification issued on January 13, 1989.
