SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has no fund to reimburse its employees’ medical expenses or pay pending arrears.
Replying to a supplementary query on medical reimbursement raised by People’s Democratic Front (PDF) member James B. Basaiawmoit, KHADC chief executive member HS Shylla said resources are “very less”.
Another PDF MDC and former council chief PN Syiem asked whether the Executive Committee has any intention to find ways to provide reimbursement.
To this Shylla said, “The fund position of the council is limited and the EC (Executive Committee) is moving cautiously.”
When MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri asked whether the Executive Committee has any plan to disburse pending arrears to its employees, Shylla said the matter is subjected to availability of fund.
Former chairperson of KHADC Teilinia Thangkhiew had recently suggested a few measures for the council to jack up its revenue earning.
She had suggested the council modernise its professional tax department and try to benefit from tourism.
Monolith fest
The Monolith Festival, usually organised by the KHADC, this year is also uncertain and is being considered by the Executive Committee.
This was as per the circulated reply of the Executive Member in charge of Arts and Culture, Victor Rani, to another question from Kharpuri who asked on whether the Monolith Festival will be held this year.
In reply to a supplementary query, Shylla said the council does not have enough fund to meet the expenses of the festival.
Speaking about the heritage village in Mawphlang, Shylla said, “The Executive Committee will have to visit the site. As for repairing the huts, it entails huge expenditure. There are many challenges and we have to thoroughly study the matter.”
