SHILLONG: As the East Khasi Hills (EKH)  Deputy Commissioner  has asked District School Education Officer, to withhold the annual examination results of those students who refused to take Measles Rubella Vaccination (MRV), the Health Department has maintained that  two Districts of East Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills are under pressure due to the low immunization rate  and how they  would increase the immunization  in the district is their discretion.

Sources in Health and Family Welfare Department said that the overall  80  percentage of children in the state had already been vaccinated under the campaign

While most of the districts have performed very well  with immunization  of children from  80  percent to  100 percent, the percentage of immunized children in East Khasi Hills District is only 51  percent while it is 66  percent in South West Khasi Hills

Sources said that as the immunization in two districts were not upto the mark, both the districts were asked to   make micro plans on how to achieve the target besides they were asked to  take some measures to record high iimmunization

“ it is the discretion of the district administration and  the district MR team on how to increase the numbers   and department would not like to interfere with their plan of action,” Sources said adding that the state government was expecting two districts to witness high immunization when other districts of the state have  witnessed very high immunization

The decision of the district administration to withhold the annual examination results of those students who refused to take Measles Rubella Vaccination have already received flak from different NGOs in the state.
