SHILLONG: The contractual teachers of government LP schools in West Garo Hills on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma through Phulbari MLA,SG Estamur Mominin urging the state government to regularise contractual teachers service without have to clear Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET).
The memorandum submitted by the contractual teachers said that after fulfilling NCTE norms, they were hopeful that their services would be regularized but their services had been ignored and Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test was declared
They also lamented that the age bar for MTET did not suit them as they had been serving for long time and they had not been provided any relaxation as far as age bar was concerned, adding that previously, they had to secure minimum 45 percent in their Class XII exam but now it has been increased to 50 percent.
Stating that the government had asked them to undergo D.EL.Ed and they were accordingly undergoing the diploma but the new concept of Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test would definitely snatch away their job.
The local MLA of Phulbari, SG Estamur Mominin has also assured the teachers that he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister.
