SHILLONG: The Khasi – Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) has asked for special traffic arrangement for the upcoming Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) exams.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the teachers association expressed concern over the deteriorating traffic condition in the city.

KJDSTA President, ED Nongsiang while talking to reporters here said students are generally excited about the exams but they do tend to get nervous after looking at the traffic jams.

The SSLC 2012 examinations start from March 5 – 16, while for HSSLC the examinations are from March 2 – 22.

According to Nongsiang, the Association has already apprised the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police on the urgency to streamline the traffic during examination days.

During the meeting, the KJDSTA demanded for special traffic arrangements on examinations dates besides setting up of special control rooms so as to avoid traffic jams when students will be hurrying for their examinations.

“An extra recovery van should also be placed to swiftly clear any road mishap during these days,” KJDSTA added.

It is learnt that the SP has assured of making all arrangements possible.

It is noted that in previous occasion many students reached their examination centres half an hour to one hour late due to traffic jams in the city.

“The examination centres should be lenient on the time factor for students, especially on the first day of the examination,”Nongsiang added.
