Agartala: The tribal-based opposition Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) has accused the Left-front Government in the state of anti-tribal activities and misleading people on tribal issues against the Centre.

INPT general secretary Jagadish Debbarma alleged here on Tuesday that the Manik Sarkar-led Government did nothing so far for delegation of more power to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) set up under sixth schedule of the constitution.

Referring to the meeting with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Feb 18 last during his Tripura visit, Debbarma said, “We have been advised to send direct proposal to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) detailing delegation of power to ADC, as the state government has not yet been sent any such plan in proper format.”

He alleged that the state government had forwarded a proposal from the Assembly regarding delegation of more power to ADC in 2006 but it was not in proper administrative format and soon after MHA had asked for re-submission of the proposal but no action was taken from the state afterwards.

Besides, INPT and several other social and political organisations had been demanding for delegation of more power to ADC including direct funding from the Centre and following sustain pressure from various quarters the state government had delegated management and supervision power of 26 departments under the state administration.

“We shall be launching agitation soon to press for the demands,” Debbarma said, adding states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal had already delegated power to respective ADCs following approval of MHA. (UNI)
