SHILLONG: The KHAD (Village Administration) Bill, 2014 will not be applicable to Chiefdoms (Himas) whose acts are codified, said KHADC CEM HS Shylla in reply to a supplementary query raised by Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MDC Adelbert Nongrum on Thursday.
“The VAB will not be applicable to those Himas who already have codified acts,” said Shylla.
Altogether 19 Hima or Elaka have codified acts out of a total of 25 Hima and 30 Sirdarship. On the other hand, about 6 Himas pay 1/8 shares to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the total amount paid during the year 2017-18 stands at Rs 15,05,250.
The Hima that pay the 1/8 shares are Sohra, Nongstoin, Rambrai, Jirang, Langrin and Nongjri with Nongstoin paying the highest share at Rs 11,50,125. During question hour of the Winter Session of the KHADC on Thursday, Shylla informed that there are some Himas who have requested the KHADC to exempt them from paying the 1/8 share due to lack of revenue.
