MAWKYRWAT: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) San Shnong area unit, which includes Manad, Mawbidong, Lummawbah, Pyndenlyngdoh and Pyndensohlang villages, in South West Khasi Hills has expressed concern over the lack of development in the area.
The area has no motorable road that connects five villages with a population of more than three thousand. The road from Tynnai village to Manad village was still under construction.
KSU San Shnong Area unit, president, John Milton Shangdiar said that the lack of development especially in health sector is a matter of concern since the people of the area have to walk for hours to reach Tynnai where they can get vehicle to Mawkyrwat. He said “The area urgently needs a Sub Centre to ease the pain and problems face by the villagers.” While informing that San Shnong has a secondary school at Manad supported by some individuals which was not recognise by the government till date, Shangdiar said in education sector the area is lacking far behind than other areas in the district.
“This area also need to have a higher secondary school besides the Secondary School because education is the most important thing in this generation,” Shangdiar said, adding that even though a Secondary School at Mawbidong was not recognise or receive any support from the government, but it has become a blessing to many students who could not afford to go to better school at Photjaud or Mawkyrwat.
The KSU has urged the government to turn their eyes to this area so that it will ease the problems of the people.
