Garo youths get platform to learn traditional art forms

TURA: Youths from Tura and Garo Hills in general are being provided an opportunity to learn various traditional art forms like playing traditional musical instruments as well as making them and other items from wood and bamboo including the skills needed to perform the Wangala Dance, in a Traditional Musical Instruments Workshop being organized by the A’chik Literature Society at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Tura from December 3 to 8.

While the workshop is being organized mainly for students who are above the age of nine years, other interested parties have also been welcomed to participate in the programme.

During the six day workshop, participants will learn the art of playing Bamboo Flutes, cutting Spi/Sepi  (Shield) out of soft wood, making Rikwareng Rikgitok (Necklace) out of Rikwareng Sarat, making Chigring out of bamboo and how to play it, the art of playing Dotdrong (wooden stringed instrument) and Dama (Drum) and steps of the traditional Wangala and Grika dance.

The A’chik Literature Society has urged youths from the region to participate in the workshop, the registration for which will take place on December 3 at 9 am.
