MSERC Chairman stresses on need to sensitize power consumers

 TURA: Chairman of the Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MSERC), W M S Pariat has said that people need to be made aware of the fact that illegal hooking and use of electricity results in excessive loading and damage of transformers.

Pariat said this during the Electricity Consumers Awareness Programme held at SMELC Conference Hall, Dakopgre in Tura on Tuesday which he attended as the Chief Guest. The program was organized by Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MSERC) in collaboration with the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Pariat also informed the gathering that the Electricity Act of 2003 has brought many changes to lives of people across the country. Dwelling on the need of electricity at all times in this modern world, he said that electricity is not a luxury but a necessity for people and there are times people face problems when there is no electricity in their homes. Stating that service of any kind needs timely payment, the Chief Guest urged the people to be responsible as consumers and pay their electricity bills on time.

Later, the Chief Guest interacted with members of the Mothers Union, Tura, Senior Citizens Forum, Tura, Nokmas, Garo Students Union and other organizations in the area.

Others who spoke on the occasion included, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director, DRDA, West Garo Hills, A M Sangma, Member, CGRF, J L Rumjang, Ombudsman, Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission, S J Laloo, President, Senior Citizens’ Forum, W G Momin and Additional Chief Engineer (Western Zone), MePDCL, Tura M K Chetri.
