SHILLONG: In a first of its kind exercise, the Opposition NCP has decided to open a ‘call centre’ to enable people to field their questions on a variety of issues and seek answers from the State Government.

Leader of the Opposition and NCP legislator, Conrad Sangma, on Wednesday said that the call centre would be opened from Thursday for a week to solicit people’s queries on different issues pertaining to the State.

“We will try to put up as many as questions of the people before the Government in the upcoming Budget session,” Sangma told reporters.

Sangma informed that the idea to open a call centre was conceived by one of his ‘Facebook’ friends.

He also informed that people can call the numbers – 8731906251 or 8731906254 – from 11 am till 7 pm daily and pose their questions.

“This is our attempt to reach to the grassroots people,” Sangma said, while adding that questions can be poses either in English, Hindi, Khasi or Garo languages.

The call centre would be handled by two professionals who would forward the entire data to the party, which would then take up the issues during the Assembly session.

It may be mentioned that the Budget session is scheduled from March 9-23.

Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition also expressed his displeasure over the short duration of the Budget session, saying that the short session would not allow for enough time to discuss the various important issues in the State.
