Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister Bindo Mathew Lanong has stressed on proper documentation of Meghalaya’s diverse culture and traditional practices.

“This is the best way to preserve and show to the world the richness of our cultural heritage,” Lanong, Incharge of Arts and Culture, said.

Lanong was addressing a special programme organized for the release of a documentary on traditional dances of North-East (Meghalaya Chapter) produced by North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, here on Thursday.

The Deputy Chief Minister said there were several sub-tribes in Meghalaya which are completely out of the State’s cultural map. “There are still many dances in our own backyard which we haven’t heard or seen before. Sadly people don’t take interest in them”, Lanong said.

He said the state Art and Culture Department is going to every nook and corner of the State for documentation of these unseen dances.

The other dignitaries present include Director of Arts and Culture D Syiem, Regional Director of NEZCC Som Kamei besides others.
