SHILLONG: The KSU wants a lasting solution to the coal issue following the attack on social activist, Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma.
In a statement issued on Monday in response to reports in a section of media about the stand of KSU on the Sohshrieh incident, the union general secretary Donald Thabah said. “Yes, the KSU does not endorse such acts of violence but at the same time the union suggests that both sides of the story should be taken into account so as to find a lasting solution to the vexed problem”.
According to the KSU leader, the question that needs to be answered also includes as to “what prompted the public to assault the two activists in a desperate manner apart from the other questions that everyone is raising a hue and cry”.
The statement reminded that the KSU president Lambok S. Marngar had clearly mentioned that the union will not be able to comment anything with regards to the Shohshrieh incident since a vivid picture was not available as to what led to the culmination of such a brutal assault on Agnes and her colleague.
He had also stated that as police investigation is at an initial stage, it is not wise to arrive at a hasty conclusion.
The KSU hoped that the police investigation will go smoothly and requested that no innocent citizen of East Jaintia Hills district is harassed in the name of justice.
