150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda celebrated

TURA: The 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated alongside the National Youth Day at Tura on Friday last.

A grand function that went on till dusk was organized by the Tura Swami Vivekananda Centre at Thakurbari.

Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi and Pararthanandaji Maharaja, Ram Krishna Moth Mission Sikka graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Guest of honor respectively.

During the day various programmes like art, quiz, essay ans poetry competition was held.

However the highlight of the gathering was a candle light procession by people from all walks of life.

The Centre later felicitated Ranjan Bose, an octogenarian and a passionate social worker from Mankachar, Assam.

The function concluded with the distribution of mosquito nets to the poor.

Baghmara too celebrated the Swami’s birth anniversary with an elaborate function that saw a huge gathering.

A day long function with similar programmes were held there and later sweets and clothed were distributed to the needy.
