NONGPOH: One person has been arrested in Ri Bhoi for allegedly killing his wife and then trying to make it look suicide. The accused, identified as Pynshais Nongrang, had an altercation with his wife Ibansalumlang Rympeit, who was seven-month pregnant, late on Monday night, according to the couple’s seven-year-old daughter Balrisha, police said. The child said she saw her father strangulate Rympeit, who is from Raitong under Umsohlait police station, as a kerosene lamp was burning in the room. He then tied her with a rope and hanged the body.
Rympeit’s body was found hanging from the ceiling of the kitchen at 7am on Wednesday, police said.
Police said the child did not shout for help and fell asleep and in the morning when neighbours heard her cry, they came and found the body.
