SHILLONG: The Steering Committee Against Murder of Democracy (SCAMoD) which is spearheading the sensational jail break episode of 2009 is determined to pursue the ‘Jailbreak case’ to its logical end despite all hindrances coming their way.
The SCAMoD members met on Saturday at the KSU office and decided to pursue the Jailbreak case. The Committee summoned the president of the Civil Society Women’s Organization to seek clarification on the allegations levelled against her recently.
“We have encountered several external forces that are trying to create a problems for SCAMoD to distract the process of the ongoing inquiry probing into the sensational Shillong jailbreak”, a member of the SCAMoD Kitborlang Nongbet told reporters after the meeting.
Reacting to a query about the allegations levelled at CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing of taking money from JHADC MDC, Thomas Nongtdu, FKJGP President and SCAMoD member Joe Marwein said, “Agnes has clarified that she had admitted that she has taken the money (Rs 10,000) but it was only to help Amita Sangma pay her rent”.
Earlier, one Amita Sangma, former member of the CSWO along with Irene Hujon had alleged that Agnes Kharshiing had gone to Thomas Nongtdu’s residence at Khliehriat and taken money from him.
“Agnes has apologised that she did not inform SCAMoD about it,” Marwein said while adding that the meeting unanimously decided to accept the apology and allow Agnes to continue to pursue the jailbreak case.
However, the SCAMoD maintained that due action would be taken against Agnes if they find out that she is involved in any activities that will tarnish the image of the Committee.
“We will take action accordingly if she is found guilty,” Marwein added.
The next hearing of the Inquiry Commission probing the Shillong jail break case is scheduled to be held on March 9.
SCAMoD has been fighting the Shillong jailbreak case to unravel the truth on the alleged politician-criminal nexus in the case.
The Inquiry Commission was set up to probe the jailbreak case where seven under-trial prisoners (UTPs) led by Fullmoon Dhar escaped from Shillong Jail on May 31, 2009.
