Manhunt launched to rescue abducted bank official

Shillong: Security forces in Meghalaya and Assam have launched a massive manhunt to rescue abducted State Bank of India (SBI) official VK Gupta even as representatives of banks in Garo Hills area on Saturday appealed to the abductors to release officer unharmed.

Gupta, the Assistant General Manager (Inspection) of SBI posted in Guwahati was abducted in Goalpara district of Assam by armed miscreants on Thursday evening while he was returning home from Mendipathar area of Meghalaya.

A group of motorcycle-borne armed miscreants abducted Gupta immediately after he crossed Meghalaya border in Krishnoi area of Goalpara district.

A massive manhunt has been launched by security forces on both sides of Assam and Meghalaya border to rescue the bank official, police sources said here on Saturday. (PTI)
