NEW DELHI: Bangladesh will honour former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma for his contribution to that country’s liberation war in Dhaka next month.

Sangma, who gave shelter to scores of then East Pakistani leaders and Mukti Bahini soldiers during the Liberation War, will be honoured as “Foreign Friend of Bangladesh Liberation War”. Bangladesh has constituted a committee to honour outstanding friends who participated in or contributed to the process of liberation war. As the convenor of the Committee, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Ms Dipu Moni invited Purno to come to Dhaka for the three-day function culminating on March 27.
