Manipuri couple bags Karmayogi Award 2018

NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Defence, Nirmala Sitharaman, on Sunday presented the Karmayogi Award 2018 to Mrs. Angam and Capt. (Retd.) Ashok Y. Tipnis, social activist from Ukhrul, for their outstanding social contributions in Northeastern India.
The award ceremony was organised by My Home India, an NGO founded by Sunil Deodhar in 2005 with the aim of bringing emotional integration between people from different parts of the country and to strengthen the feeling of brotherhood among the citizens, with a major focus on Northeastern India.
Every year the NGO felicitates people from North East India under the Karmayogi Award. A high-ranking jury of experts selects the most outstanding social workers who dedicate their lives to promote art &culture, sports, education etc. for their contribution in respective fields in North Eastern India.
The occasion was also graced by Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, Jishnu Debbarma and former captain of the Indian football team, Bhaichung Bhutia.
Presenting the award, Sitharaman said, “I congratulate Capt. (Retd.) Ashok Tipnis and Mrs. Angam Tipnis for the work they are doing. They have dedicated their lives to the people and society.”
“I am thankful for the work of Mr. Ashok and Mrs. Angam Tipnis. They have contributed in making a better India. The North East is a land of possibilities and potential. And the youth of North East has to make it possible,” said Debbarma.
“Capt. (Retd.) Ashok and Mrs. Angam Tipnis have started their work in a very sensitive and difficult environment in Manipur. They have dedicated their lives for the people of Manipur. Mr. Ashok and Mrs. Angam Tipnis have worked for the national integration of India and their work is remarkable. We are Indians and we are going to stay together. We are going to make our country proud,” said Bhutia.
He also appreciated the work of My Home India and said “My Home India has helped thousands of students from North East India to settle in Delhi.”
