HRD didnt receive complaint for exorbitant univ fees: Govt
New Delhi: The HRD Ministry has not received any complaints regarding charging of exorbitant fees by the deemed to be universities, Parliament was informed Monday. The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Satya Pal Singh in response to a written question in the Lok Sabha. “No specific complaints are received by this ministry regarding charging of exorbitant fee by the deemed to be universities. As per the University Grants Commission norms, deemed to be universities are not allowed to accept payment towards certain heads on the pretext of admission fees and other fees,” Singh said. As per norms, deemed to be universities cannot charge any fees towards a capitation fee or donation; any amount other than charges for admission which has been declared by it in the prospectus for admission against any such seat and on the website of the institution and any payment without a proper receipt in writing issued for such payment to the student concerned admitted in such an institution. Tigress found dead in Umred Karhandla Sanctuary
Nagpur: The carcass of a tigress was found in the early hours Monday in Umred Pauni Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district, over 60 kilometres from here, a senior Forest department official said. This is the second incident in as many days in the sanctuary, the official informed. Field Director of Pench-Tadoba Reserve Ravikiran Govekar stated that the body of the tigress was found early Monday morning during a field search operation by forest staff in the Paoni wildlife range of the Umred Pauni Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary. He said the tigress’ body was found close to the site where the carcass of a tiger was found on Sunday. “The tigress found on Monday was T4. The one found on Sunday was T16. The death of both the big cats might have taken place around the same time. A semi-eaten body of a pig was also found nearby,” the official said. More details would emerge after the standard operating procedure laid down for such cases by the National Tiger Conservation Authority is completed, Govekar added. (PTI)
NCW seeks report over transfusion of infected blood
New Delhi: The National Commission for Women on Monday sought a report from Tamil Nadu authorities over the case of two women allegedly contracting HIV from blood transfusion. Calling it a matter of “serious concern”, NCW chief Rekha Sharma wrote to Tamil Nadu Principal Secretary at the Department of Health and Family Welfare J Radhakrishnan and asked him to probe the matter. The official has been directed to send a report to the women rights body at the earliest. A 24-year-old pregnant woman in Virudhunagar contracted HIV allegedly after being transfused contaminated blood. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the blood bank staff had failed to screen the blood properly before supplying it to the private hospital. The personnel who tested the donor’s blood had labelled it ‘safe,’ officials said. The state government had ordered a probe and an examination of all stocks at blood banks in the state after the incident. The Commission said that a 27-year-old woman had accused doctors at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital of criminal negligence, alleging that she contracted the virus during a blood transfusion procedure in April.
