SHILLONG: The office bearers and members of the All Saints’ Cathedral and the Shillong Pastorate Committee, Church of North India, have expressed distress and anguish at the assault of a member, Manovan Massar, who is also an organist of the church.
Massar was assaulted by a police officer at Fire Brigade Point in the city.
A statement by the Shillong Pastorate Committee said it was “a gross unprovoked and excessive exercise of force”, as a result of which Massar suffered grievous injuries, including a fractured finger.
“We have no option but to make a fervent and sincere appeal to the concerned authorities to initiate appropriate actions for rendering justice to the injured person,” the statement said while appealing to all concerned to ensure that such violent incidents are not repeated in future. “Indeed a proper course of action at all times is surely through the lawful and non-violent means,” they said.
