9 injured in last 3 days but drunken driving less on New Year

SHILLONG: As the New Year revelry picked up tempo, road accidents became frequent in the last two days of 2018 and on New Year.
Nineteen persons were injured in separate road accidents between Sunday and Tuesday.
On New Year, four persons, including a child, were injured.
Kongsi Marwet (38) suffered minor injury after the auto she was travelling in overturned. The Byrnihat-based 108 Emergency Service staff gave her first-aid and shifted her to Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
Marysha Ryntathiang (20) and Darihun Ryntathiang (10) sustained injuries when the four-wheeler they were travelling in overturned at Kreit around 9.12 pm on Tuesday. The vehicle was trying to avoid collision with another car from the opposite direction.
B Pyngrope (24) met with an accident near Umstew when his Alto car skidded. All victims were shifted to nearby hospitals.
Less number of drunken driving cases was reported on New Year. SP (City) Steve Rynjah said only eight cases were reported and there were no accidents. “Those found driving under the influence of liquor were sent for medical examination and accordingly legal action was taken against them,” he added.
The SP also expressed happiness over the fact that people were disciplined while driving on New Year.
However, on Monday Ajibul Rehman (40) met with an accident while riding in an inebriated condition. He hit a car parked near Green Star Hotel at 13th Mile and sustained minor injuries.
On the eve of New Year, a 24-year-old taxi driver, Joinlang L Nongum, lost control and hit a car. Besides him, three passengers aged less than 30 years were injured.
A truck hit a Maruti car at Umeit around 10pm and fled. The driver, Winstar Khylleit (33), sustained head injury. The patient was referred to NEIGRIHMS by doctors at Bhoirymbong CHC.
The 108 Service shifted the victims to hospitals.
A 32-year-old man sustained major injuries when his scooter hit a truck that was coming from the wrong direction near Elephant Falls around 1.41am on Sunday. Ajit Khongsit is suspected to have fractured his lower limb and dislocated right ankle. He was taken to Shillong Civil hospital.
Four persons were injured when the drunken driver of a truck hit their vehicle, a Sumo, at Mawblei on Sunday morning.
Four more accidents were reported on Sunday two of which are hit-and-run cases. One of them was an unidentified victim who suffered multiple head injuries at 11th Mile, Byrnihat.
One killed
On the other hand, on December 27 at 9 pm, one vehicle driven by Md. Anwar Hussain (38) met with an accident at Wagekuna under Rongara PS (SGH). As a result, the driver sustained injuries and later succumbed to his injuries.
