GUWAHATI: One youth died after coming in contact with live electric wire and two others were injured on Thursday when they were sticking posters/hanging banners of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PM is scheduled to address a mass rally in Silchar on Friday to kick-start the BJP’s election campaign in the Northeast for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
The deceased was identified as Montosh Das. The injured were rushed to the hospital.
The deceased who sells vegetables for his livelihood, was helping in sticking the posters of PM Modi when he came into contact with a live high-voltage electrical wire at Chittaranjan Avenue in Silchar town, a source in Silchar informed.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled launch the ruling BJP party’s campaign of the 2019 general election in Silchar for the entire Northeast.
PM Modi is going to address a public rally organized by the BJP at Ramnagar near the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at the outskirt of Silchar town on Friday afternoon.
A vast paddy field at Ramnagar area in Silchar has been prepared by the BJP for holding the public rally.
Meanwhile, a large team of Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel has arrived in Silchar to make security arrangement for the visit of PM Modi.
The BJP has chosen Silchar, the main hub of Barak Valley in South Assam, to launch its election campaign in the region by Narendra Modi for the entire region.
The BJP which performed very well in Bengali-Hindu dominated Barak Valley region, is now fighting a disadvantage there in the form of public anguish after a large number of people from the area had failed to make it to the final draft NRC that was published on July 30, 2018.
Moreover, the BJP will try to harp on its efforts to get Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016inthe Parliament to ensure grant of citizenship to refugees of persecuted minority communities including Bengali Hindus from neighbouring Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
