SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Thursday asked the youths of the State to keep their distance from the militant outfit Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) who is luring the youths by their false propaganda, even as he reiterated his Government’s commitment to neutralize all insurgent activities in the State.

Talking to media persons here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said, “Young boys and girls should keep a respectable distance from the militant outfits.”

According to Dr Sangma, there are number of cadres who are trying to surrender as the frustration within the GNLA camps is increasing tremendously.

“Cadres after living in jungles for some time start missing their families and siblings but the GNLA leaders prevent them from return to the mainstream,” Dr Sangma said.

The Chief Minister also stated that the GNLA was attempting to instill fear in the minds of the surrendered cadres by burning their homes.

Lashing out at the GNLA, Dr Sangma said that the outfit was carrying its criminal activities in the name of a separate state which cannot be justified at all.

“There is an aggressive action by security forces to neutralize the outfit,” he added.

The Central Government also has already made it clear that it would not hold any talks with the GNLA until they abjure violence and give up arms.
