SHILLONG: Following the Magisterial inquiry on the diversion of PDS rice in the city, the East Khasi Hills District Administration has cancelled the license of one L Surong, the wholesaler of PDS items in Laitumkhrah.

“The district administration had not recommended for the renewal of license of Surong,” East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal said, while adding that a new dealer will be selected for Laitumkhrah for the period 2012-13.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, Goyal said as per the magisterial report, Surong was found not following the provisions of the Meghalaya Food Grains Control Order, 2004.

“The police are further investigating the case and we are hopeful that the charge sheet against the guilty will be filed soon,” Goyal added.

The Magisterial enquiry, which was ordered following evidences of diversion of PDS rice into the black market, had found seven persons guilty and had recommended action against them.

The report had also suggested the need to seal the PDS rice sacks with a Unique Identification Mark before taking out of the FCI godown.
