Guwahati: Assam government on Friday instituted a one-man inquiry commission into the reports of starvation deaths in Bhuvan Valley tea estate in Cachar district of Assam’s Barak Valley.

Additional Chief Secretary P K Choudhury will head the inquiry commission, a release said here.

The commission had been asked to inquire into the circumstances leading to the deaths, fix responsibility and suggest measures to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

It had been directed to submit its report within seven days, the statement added.

Starvation deaths were reported from the Bhuvan Valley tea estate, a charge that has been denied by the garden authorities. (UNI)
