GUWAHATI: India is a young country and the youth of the nation are full of immense potential. If the youth are empowered and their abilities nurtured in a systematic and scientific way, India could emerge as the most powerful nation in the world.
This was said by Assam chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal while taking part in the fifth convocation ceremony of Kaziranga University in Jorhat on Sunday.
Stating that there was no parallel to hard work for success in life, Sonowal urged the graduating students to build character and personality with honesty, dedication, hard work and sacrifice.
“Rise, awake and utilise your potential to serve the nation and then your life will be meaningful,” he said.
Further terming work culture as the king of all cultures, the chief minister called upon the parents and the teachers to build a favorable environment for boosting positive traits amongst students.
Sonowal also underlined the importance being given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for empowerment of youth in the country.
He said the Prime Minister believes in youth-led development and the state government has been working with sincerity to provide the young generation with best possible platform for achieving success in life.
Sonowal on the occasion formally launched the ceremony for awarding degrees to the graduating students. Altogether 405 students were awarded degrees at the convocation.
Olympian and world women’s boxing champion, M.C. Marry Kom, Kaziranga University chancellor, Muralidhar Khaitan, Lovely Professional University chancellor, Ashok Mittal, among others also spoke on the occasion.
Bihu greetings
Chief minister Sonowal has conveyed his greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu.
In a statement on Sunday, Sonowal said, “Celebrations of Bhogali Bihu in traditional fervor associates our younger generation with our unique culture and brings us together on a common platform and strengthens the bond of friendship and camaraderie”.
He said that the flames of meji consign all the ill feelings and evil forces and strengthen the harmonious co-existence of the people belonging to Barak, Brahmaputra, hills and plains.
He also said that the community feast organised on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu was indeed a testimony to the prosperity and equality the festival stood for.
