SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma and Home Minister, James Sangma were apprised about the ongoing operations at the East Jaintia Hills illegal mine in Kasan where 15 miners have remained trapped since December 13.
Informing this after the Cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Preston Tynsong said that the operations were still on till on Wednesday and in the next few days, the district administration, concerned department will sit and discuss with the rescue experts again.
To a question if the state government is exploring to call off the rescue operations as no headwayhas been made for over a month, Tynsong said that quite a number of experts were engaged by the state government who are doing their best and until and unless the government get their views it could not say anything on the fate of the operation.
He,however, said that once they have the views of the experts they can even file an affidavit in the Supreme court which has asked the authorities to continue with the rescue operation.
The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the State Government had filed an application in the Supreme Court requesting the court to allow the transportation of coal till January 31 and they are awaiting for necessary instructions from the Court.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had slammed the State Government over its inability to contain illegal coal mining in the state resulting in major a mine mishap like in Ksan and banned any form of transportation of coal till February 19, the next date of hearing.
Talking about their visit to New Delhi, Tynsong said that they would express their before to the central government with the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
During the meeting, the delegation of the MDA Government is likely to meet Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Home Minister, Rajnath Singh.
