SHILLONG: The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) will be the Congress’s weapon against its rivals even in the district council election, the preparation for which has already started.
Addressing a gathering at a meeting of council election candidates here on Friday, Vincent H Pala spelled out the danger of the bill and its impact on indigenous people. He reminded that the Village Administrative Bill could not be implemented because of the BJP Government’s failure.
Pala recalled the achievements of the Congress and asked the candidates to highlight it before voters.
Victor Keishing, AICC secretary in-charge Meghalaya, appealed to the candidates to work hard for the interest of the people even as he asked them to vigorously explain the danger and impact of the policy of the BJP, an ally of the MDA government in the state.
He said the MDA has neglected the farmers’ plight and asked the candidates to take up the issue at the proper forum as farmers are being exploited by middlemen.
He called upon party members to respect the traditional institutions and to be cautious of any move by the Centre to weaken its structure.
