SHILLONG: The leader of Opposition and CLP leader, Mukul  Sangma has cleared the doubts over the speculation about  him contesting the next Lok Sabha elections from Tura constituency saying that he is not the candidate of the party.

On being asked about several leaders in the party applying for ticket from both the Shillong and Tura seats, Sangma said that the party had a galaxy of leaders who ventured into politics to serve the people.

“I am happy to do what I am doing,” the former Chief Minister said while adding that it is a good sign that several leaders of the party have expressed their  interest to the contest the Lok Saba elections from Shillong and Tura.

It may be mentioned that former Home Minister, HDR Lyngdoh who lost the last Assembly elections, is trying to secure a ticket from the party to contest the election from Shillong seat while the incumbent MP, Vincent Pala too is in the race to contest the elections for the third consecutive terms as the Congress candidate.

As far as Tura seat is concerned, the brother of the Leader of the Opposition Zenith Sangma along with former  Cabinet Minister, Deborah Marak have also applied for the party ticket.

Talking about the prospects of the Congress as far as the Tura seat is concerned, Dr Sangma said that they had to wait and see the outcome of the mandate of the people and they have confidence that the people know that by now.

President of  Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress, Richard Mrong Marak too has applied for party ticket to contest the election from Tura seat.
