TURA: A 14-year-old girl from Adokgre, Sengme M Sangma, who went missing on Saturday after she boarded the wrong bus to come to Tura was reunited with her family in Tura on Monday.
The teenager had left Adokgre in North Garo Hills to come to Tura to visit her relatives. However when she missed the direct bus from Dhupdhara, she came down to Darranggri from where she mistakenly took the bus to Goalpara instead. Realizing her mistake, the girl got off at Dudhnoi in Goalpara district of Assam and walked around aimlessly. She was spotted by some good samaritans from Amjonga who spoke to her and took her to their village for safekeeping.
In the meantime when the girl did not reach Tura, the worried family members filed a missing report at Tura as well as posted their problem on social media. Local NGO from North Garo Hills, AIJIF, launched a search.
The president of AIJIF, Alex K Sangma, who had heard of a missing girl being found from Gaonbura contacted the association advisor, who happened to be a resident of Amjonga.
“After confirming with the relatives, I then contacted the advisor who confirmed that that a girl by that name had been found and was with them. We immediately confirmed it was the same girl after which the family was informed. They were reunited today at Tura,” said Alex.
