SHILLONG: The Border Security Force, Meghalaya Frontier, has seized a large number of cattle in the last few years but now they are in a spot over the custody of seized animals.
Sources in the border force said neither the custom nor the state police department is taking custody of the seized cattle.
More than 300 animals are ready for disposal but none of the authorities concerned is taking responsibility as a result of which two-three animals are dying everyday, the sources said.
They added that BSF has handed over the seizure memo to the authorities.
Last year, several cattle were seized along the Indo-Bangladesh border, especially in the Dawki area.
However, BSF sources said cattle smuggling to Bangladesh have gone down in the past two months due to the general elections in Bangladesh but fear that it will rise again in the next 15-20 days.
