SHILLONG: The disbanded ANVC-B has asserted that the Congress should not play politics over the recently approved amendments to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution by the Union Cabinet.
Former leader of the ANVC-B Bernard Marak said the Congress should not play politics as it “tried to sabotage the entire peace pact”. “We first came to ceasefire during NDA rule in 2003 and signed the Peace Pact in 2014 and finally approval of the Sixth Schedule and upgradation of the District Council to the Territorial Council was given under NDA rule,” he said.
He also alleged that the Congress never wanted this to come through and added that opposition leader Mukul Sangma should not try to take credit for the amendment as they were cheated many times by his government.
“For the Congress, it has always been their party and their own interest above the people’s aspiration. If it was the Congress at the Centre and in the state this would not have happened. The Congress is not a solution to the present grievances faced by the public, especially in Garo Hills,” the statement said.
