SHILLONG: The Arunachal government has appointed GS Meena, commissioner of power, as inquiry officer to probe the tricolour blunder on Republic Day that has left the state red-faced.
The national flag went down when it was being unfurled by Governor BD Mishra at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar.
Later, the flag rope was found broken and the pole crashed on the ground, causing “great embarrassment” to the government and “inflicting insult on the national flag”, an order issued by the state’s home department said.
“The inquiry officer shall ascertain the complete facts underlying the incidence, to fix responsibility and to suggest remedial measures to prevent such incidence in future,” the order said.
The inquiry report will be submitted to the home department within seven days.
