TURA: The daylong Non Cooperation Movement (NCM) called by the All Garo Hills Joint Action Committee (AGHJAC) against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) on Wednesday saw complete shutdown of Tura town with shops remaining shut and government offices witnessing a low turnout of employees even as no untoward incidents were reported from any part of the town.

Shops at Ringre Market as well as the Main Tura market downed their shutters for the day but there was no restriction on the plying of vehicles as a few private vehicles as well as buses were seen plying through the main thoroughfares of the town. Hallidaganj and Rajabala in West Garo Hills were the only places where shops opened up for business and private vehicles plied on the road as usual.

Attendance by employees in their respective offices in Baghmara of South Garo Hills was also low with more than half of the employees remaining absent. In Chokpot Sub Division under the same district, offices remained open though there was minimal attendance of employees. Shops also remained shut and there was no movement of commercial vehicles. However a few private vehicles were seen plying on the roads.

The situation was the same at Williamnagar in East Garo Hills, Ampati in South West Garo Hills as well as at Resubelpara in North Garo Hills where shops downed their shutters for the day and vehicles remained off the roads.

Overall, the daylong protest call was peaceful and no untoward incidents were reported from any of the five districts of Garo Hills.
