4 held in Baghmara for rape of minor during Tyisam fest

TURA: Baghmara Police have arrested four persons for sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl during the recently concluded Tyisam Festival at Baghmara in South Garo Hills.

 According to a delayed report, the incident took place on December 14, the second day of the festival and an FIR into the incident was filed at the Baghmara Police Station soon after.

 According to sources, the 14 year old minor had come to the festival with one, Jerry R Marak (22). The minor girl was taken by Marak and three of his friends, Thomas S Marak, Saljrang N Sangma (22) and Tebath N Marak (19) to a nearby place called Pilot Project on the Baghmara-Rongara Road where they took turns raping her before leaving the place.

 It was only after the victim narrated her ordeal to her parents that a case was filed and the four were immediately arrested by the police. The four accused have since been remanded to judicial custody.

 According to South Garo Hills SP, Abraham T Sangma all the four accused have been arrested under the POCSO Act.

 “The attempted to move bail on Tuesday but it was rejected. We will be charge-sheeting the case as soon as all necessary information including FSL and medical reports are available,” the SP added.
