Tension in coal mining area

 JOWAI: Tension gripped the famous coal mining area of Briwar under Khiehriat Sub-Division in Jaintia Hills district after a group of coal businessmen allegedly led by nominated JHADC MDC, Phillip Tangliang and Begin Paslein attacked a coal mine on Thursday.

The mine owner, Silvenus Sukhlian of Dkhiah East lodged a police complaint at Saipung Police Station.

According to Sukhlain, the group of people led by Tangliang and Begin Paslein all of Samasi village came to the coal mine and vandalized everything including a power generator and burnt down a vehicle belonging to him.

“They even shot at my labourers and set fire two labour camps at the mining site”, Silvenus said Jaintia Hills police led by the Officer in Charge Saipung Police Station, C Shylla along with Sub-Divisional Police Officer visited the mining site on Friday to investigate and take stock of the situation. Till filing this report, no one was arrested in this connection.
