SHILLONG/ TURA: The results of Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET) were withheld by the state government till the outcome of the probe.
A senior government official said on Thursday that there are both police and departmental inquiries into the matter. “The government has withheld the results pending the outcome of the probe,” the official added.
He, however, said the government is yet to decide on cancelling the test.
West Garo Hills police had arrested seven persons from Rajabala in connection with the leaking of MTET question paper.
The paper was leaked on the first day of the exam at a centre in Rajabala on February 3 compelling a Shillong-based lawyer to file a police complaint in this regard.
West Garo Hills police chief MGR Kumar said the arrested persons had planned to pass the test by obtaining the papers and distribution of the same to others with a criminal intention.
The mastermind of the operation is absconding and police are on the lookout.
However, Congress MLA from Rajabala Azad Zaman had accused police of arresting “innocent” candidates.
“After sitting for the exam and confirming the authenticity of the leak, the students even reported the matter to the invigilator. Worryingly despite the paper leak, the authorities continued with the exam,” the MLA had claimed and demanded a CBI inquiry.
