SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday said that the government is looking at all aspects of making stronger laws to check influx into the state.
Asked about the stand of the government on the growing demand for ILP in the state, Conrad said the government was looking at all aspects and also reviewing the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act.
“There are factors that we need to discuss with the government of India as well. There are laws which we may make, but which may contradict the national laws and it becomes embarrassing for us if we have to pull out later if it is taken up in the Supreme Court,” he said adding that the government, therefore, needs to make sure that whatever it does is done in proper consultation with legal experts.
